MIM Panel: The woman’s body as an empowerment or plastic tool in music videos.
The use of women body as a claim in the media and in the music industry is and unfortunately remains today a resource that has reified us. The stereotype that music videos sell and strategies for promotion and marketing are clear: ornament, degradation and sexualization of women. In this panel we will analyze how the image of women are used and how they articulate their identities, occupying roles and power spaces in the music business and in the creation process. Today the empowerment and the vindication of the body comes together in a new positioning of new narratives that are a tool of social struggle. In recent times there have appeared school of thoughts that bet on showing the female body as a response to a society increasingly repressive and timorous. Some artists claim that the unabashed demand of the female body can also be a tool of struggle and empowerment.
